“300” – Jenna Burns

“I originally had no intention of competing in college.

Sure, I thought about how boring life would be without a sport and a team always around you, but it didn’t seem to bother me.

Before I started my last high school track season, I started thinking about the what-ifs.  I looked at the distances for the schools I had been accepted into, and surprisingly, I wasn’t that far off of what their best throwers were throwing.

I wasn’t recruited by any schools, so I reached out to the head coaches in hopes that I could continue the sport I had looked forward to every spring since seventh grade.

And to my disbelief, the head coaches from my top two schools both got back to me and said I would be a great fit for their programs.

I picked Michigan Tech because I could get a quality education and be able to do something I love as well.

I can’t even imagine where I would be if I weren’t throwing anymore.

I’ve gotten stronger mentally and physically by continuing my sport.

Of course I’ve woken up asking whether it’s all worth it.

But all the goals I’ve achieved and friends I’ve made in the last few years have made the hard work definitely worth while.”
